Top ISPs Six Strikes Anti-Piracy measures may apply to free Wi-Fi

For those that think the six strikes copyright enforcement blitz only applies to residential customers and not in public areas, think again.

The top ISPs - AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, and others may expand the six strikes copyright rule to their Wi-Fi hotspots, and go after businesses that are providing patrons their Wi-Fi access and throttling down their Net speed if used for infringement purposes.

It shows even if you use public Wi-Fi, you may be subject to an unexpected decrease in Net speed.

  1. This scheme is doomed to fail. The only thing that will stop piracy is these 4 things:

    1. Make the content available in all regions at the same time as soon as it becomes available.

    2. Sell downloads for a fair price that people are willing to pay. If you rip them off they'll just pirate it instead.

    3. Make your entire back catalog available at the same time. Don't sell a single episode, or a single season. Sell all of the seasons and all of the episodes.

    4. Don't punish paying customers by implementing draconian DRM schemes. Allow people to download, copy, move, and freely use the stuff they paid for. DRM only hurts paying customers.

A lot of people are learning how to set up seedboxes or VPNs (https://sites.google.com/site/seedboxhowto/) to get around the six strikes program. This way they can pay a few bucks a month and stay anonymous and continue to download without getting caught.
